    T.W.Ward

I was born Thomas William Ward, on the 14th July 1946. I started my education at Friarage County Primary School before moving to Gladstone Road County Modern, where I took an interest in English and History, which probably helped in later years in the writing of various poetic offerings. I've always had an interest in writing you understand, but apart from becoming somewhat adapt at writing the occasional letter to the local paper, I never imagined for one minute, anything I might have written in later years, would amount to any real outpouring of Shakespearean proportions, nor in truth do I still.

    Robert Simpson

Originally from Liverpool, Robert Simpson has been absorbed in science fiction since the age of nine. His biggest writing project to date has been a huge three-volume epic set entirely in an alien environment, and it is this work which inspired and underpins the science fiction element in his book The Orb.

After graduating in biochemistry from Wadham College, Oxford, Robert spent many years teaching English as a Foreign Language in Spain, Sweden and York. Until his recent retirement, he was a product manager and the technical author for a local engineering company. Since 2012 he has lived happily in Scarborough, his wife’s home town.

    Robert Adams

As a child I was an avid short story writer from 'The Haunted Castle' to the 'Space Invaders'. But my creative endeavours have always been eclectic. I gained a 1st Class B.A.(Hons) Degree in Drawing and Painting, before going on to do a Masters in Fine Art, and then teaching at Edinburgh College of Art.

I have published short stories in Queer Words (quarterly paperback of new lesbian and gay writing); ‘The Protégé’, ISBN 1900950022, ‘Client/Transcript’, ISBN 1900950057, and had a short piece of prose published and displayed on London Underground, ‘The Wait’, as winner of the GlaxoWellcome Write for Life competition. I wrote my first business/personal development book, on DISC personality profiling / psychometrics: ‘DISCover the Power of You: How to Cultivate Change for Positive and Productive Cultures’ in 2017, published through John Hunt Publishing Ltd, ISBN: 978-1-78535-591-2.

Recently I have had a number of successes:
·Published a short piece of flash fiction ‘Time to think’ in Reflections magazine, Autumn/Winter 2018 Edition.
·Won the Stanley Wilson Monologue Competition for my monologue entitled ‘Gavin’s Revenge’ through the Scarborough Writers Circle in September 2018.
·e-published a piece of flash fiction ‘Loughborough Lite’ as part of 81 Words.
·And had a short story ‘The witches of the wood’ published in an anthology ‘Terror Tales for a Winters Eve’ through Phantasm Press, December 2018.

I have spent the past year writing a series of novels called ‘A Family Still’ and am currently in the process of having these professionally edited ready to send out to Agents / Publishers.

    Raymond David

in Liverpool, spending a career in the print and publishing industry’s NGA (National Graphical Association).

    Patricia Camm

I write under the name of Anita Hyde and have had several poems and short stories published in a variety of books. I am currently working on my own poetry and short stories book which is called ‘My Dad’s Hands and other stories’.

I live in Whitby and, whilst retired, work part time at St Mary’s Church on the East Cliff. I live with my husband, Russ, son Euan, and have two married daughters and 6 grand children.

    Katherine Haynes

Katherine Haynes was born at St Albans in 1961. Both her mother and paternal grandmother were authors, while her father worked at a reporter on various local newspapers. It, therefore, seemed inevitable that she, too, would develop an interest in writing. Katherine collaborated with friends on various projects while at school and had her first short story published at the age if nineteen.

Since then she has gone on to publish in excess of 50 stories. These have appeared in magazines such as; All Hallows, Ghosts & Scholars, Enigmatic Tales, Visionary Tongue and Supernatural Tales. Further tales have appeared in anthologies; Lady Stanhope’s Manuscript (Ash-Tree Press), Strange Tales Vol. II (Tartarus Press), Delicate Toxins (Side Real Press), The Ghosts and Scholars Book of Shadows Volume 3 (Sarob Press), Conventional Vampires and His Red Eyes Again (both published by The Dracula Society). Her own collection from Sarob; Waiting in the Shadows appeared in 2018. There have also been two collections from Phantasm Press; Daydreams and Nightmares (2014) and Thin Ghosts of Tides (2018).

Daydreams and Nightmares won The Dracula Society’s 2014 Children of the Night award. This award was designed and made by artist and modelmaker, Vince Mattocks, whose work featured in Anglia Television’s documentary on M. R. James. The collection was edited by the late Richard Dalby. Katherine’s second Phantasm Press book Thin Ghosts of Tides was dedicated to Richard’s memory and paid tribute to him by including him as a character in the opening tale.
Since 2016 Grace Poole -a novel inspired by Jane Eyre and ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde’- has been appearing in numbers published by Phantasm Press. The tenth and final issue appeared in the summer of 2019.
As well as having been a member of The Dracula Society for 36 years, Katherine also belongs to the Wilkie Collins Society and was a founder member of A Ghostly Company. Stories of hers have appeared in The Silent Companion which is published annually by AGC.

She lives in Hertfordshire with her partner, Vince Mattocks. They have no pets, but hedgehogs, foxes, squirrels and all kinds of birds are regular visitors to their garden.

She lives in Scarborough with husband Richard, two dogs, a cat, four hens and a triple allotment. She is a Trustee and Volunteer at Newby and Scalby Community Library, a member of Scarborough Writers’ Circle and a member of Scarborough Poetry Workshop. Jane Meredith

I’ve written from a young age and remember penning a children’s story to read aloud to the little boy who lived next door whilst babysitting and having a short story, called The Rut, published in the local press aged 11. I was hauled before the school assembly to read it aloud from the stage - very embarrassing, arghhhh!

I belong to Bridlington’s Contemporary Poetry group, which meets each month in the town’s Contemporary Art Gallery and has a spin off, charity fund-raising performance group.

Yorkshire born and educated, I have a BA (Hons) in English Studies and an MA in Contemporary Poetry. i would describe myself as a writer and dancer - not necessarily in that order - and am also a busy carer.

    George Cromack

For a number of years George Cromack taught on the University of Hull’s Creative Writing programme at Scarborough, specialising in Scriptwriting for the Screen and the Radio. A regular Creative Writing and Film Studies tutor for the WEA, George is also known for delivering one-off talks, writing workshops and film introductions in the local area. George’s fiction has appeared in short story publications, on the stage and been produced for a short film. Film and Cult T.V is another passion of his and the ‘Folk Horror’ sub-genre is the subject of his continuing academic research.

    Claire Artley

Claire Artley's visual style immerses readers in her fast paced sci-fi and horror stories. There is usually less trepidation in her day job where she writes tenders and advises companies on how to tender for contracts.

Claire's latest stories include 'The Hanger', part of Terror Tales for a Winter's Eve, published by Phantasm Press and 'Uncode', Dreaming of Steam: 23 tales of Wolds and rails, published by Fantastic Books Publishing.

    Charles Airlie

I am a retired Technical Manager of a manufacturing company living in Scarborough with my wife, Susan and our dog (collie-labrador), Meg.

We have two daughters and (currently) four grandsons.

I am currently treasurer of a small but growing community group called Scarborough MATES which is based on the popular, Men's Shed model.

I have been an active member of a local U3A creative writing group for the last three years.

My other interests include, cycling, ceramics, painting, and wood-turning.

    Barbara Robinson

I live in the picturesque English town of Whitby – of ‘Dracula’ renown.’ I have had an interest in writing since my early school days when I won a prize for a short story which was published it The Daily Mirror. After winning the Wetherby prize at the Literary Festival in 1985 I was later short-listed for the Leeds ‘Peace’ poetry competition and then won the Partners Open Poetry Competition. My writing, published in many small press magazines and Anthologies, covers a broad range of both adult and children’s poetry and prose. My work is also being published in Australia’s ‘Free Xpression’ and India’s Metverse Muse magazines.

I have had three poetry books published; ‘One Moment in Time’, ‘Singing to the Four Winds’ and ‘A Touch of Nature’. I contributed to the World War 1 Anthology ‘Whitby Voices’ for Whitby’s Pannett Park Art Gallery, and, together with 5 members of the Library writing group, we produced ‘A Journey Through The Museum’, a tour in poetry and prose through the James Cook Museum at Whitby, now in its second print. I have recently finished a humorous children’s poetry book, ‘A Pocketful Of Chuckles’ which will be published in the near future.

    Antony Gibson

Anthony was hooked on the sport of horseracing after his parents allowed him to place a bet on the Grand National in 1965 when he was just ten years of age. He was fortunate enough to find the winner, but if the horse had lost, his lifetime passion for this sport might well have been directed elsewhere. Most of his time now is spent researching selection methods and giving out selections from these methods on a daily basis via his website at www.bettingsystem.info. This site was originally designed to enable people with the same passion as his to post comments on an open forum. However it seems that not many people want to share their thoughts or methods and help their fellow punters get an edge, so it turned into a platform to sell my own systems, as well as a tipping website. A few years ago he started writing his own books.

    Ali Wilkins

Ali Wilkins was born in Scarborough and has lived in Seamer for just over 20 years with her husband Neil and daughter Clare. Writing as a hobby started about 18 years ago and she thoroughly enjoyed a 2 year Creative Writing course at Hull University Scarborough Campus in 2006. She enjoys writing poetry and short stories and likes the challenges they bring and the satisfaction of completion.
